Have Fun and GOOD LUCK!!!!!
I’ve had a sneak peek as the works have been hung and there are going to be some lucky and happy art buyers tonight!
It’s THAT TIME OF YEAR again!!!! As you can see, we here at Dredgers Union/216 HQ are pretty darn excited about it too!
Things are a little different this time around and I for one, cannot wait. Typically, I create a temporary little retail store out of misc and random furniture and fixtures. This time, I have challenged a new design/architecture/landscape firm in town, MAKER, to take my typical budget and create a much more contemporary and clean look to house all the eclectic, colorful and whimsical items that we often get for the event.
We are going to be a little 216/retail factory over the next 2 weeks here, troubleshooting ways to house all the BAGILLIONS of amazing CLEVELAND-designed items we will have for sale June 15-17th.
Anyhow, we’ll keep you posted as we get closer, but be sure to save the date. The party, Friday June 15th will include all our favorite types of shenanigans, including DJ Peter PleasureCruise, and an after party on Greenhouse Tavern’s Rooftop featuring DJ Reena Samaan!
Don’t you just LOVE SUMMER!!!! ALSO, as long as you’ve got your calendars out…don’t forget to get your tickets NOW for Cleveland Museum of Arts Annual SUMMER SOLSTICE PARTY on June 30th. Not to be missed this year! In fact, when you attend 216 you can pick up a great party dress for the occasion!
Dredgers Union and Room Service alike are so proud of our very own, DeAnna Domino-Sierputowski, Ms. Dyngus 2012, see her below, looking very happy indeed, as she leads the Dyngus Day parade yesterday Monday, April 9, 2012
This past weekend, we took a little trip out to Chicago to visit our factory. It is where our DU private label is produced. Sean has been working with this factory for years and years, with Wrath Arcane, and has spent much time there, but I have never yet had the chance to see where ‘the magic happens!”.
It was pretty cool to see where and how it all comes together. This is Sean’s profession, but I don’t know much about it, so I am glad I finally got to do this.
I took 2 of the items, the RED JEGGING & TUNIC, and paired them with items found both at DU and at other stores, to play around with options and directions one could take these two basic items…really, I was so inspired I believe I will do several ‘studies’ of these items. It was a lot of fun playing on polyvore, and I guess it’s just yet another social media tool that I will lose years of my life to…
With spring fever hitting Cleveland, pedicurists all over the area are sure to be enjoying fully booked schedules getting all those local toesies ready to be unveiled after the not-so-long or not-so-rough winter!
DU is here to help you take that process one step further! We are so excited (ok, maybe Sean isn’t excited, he probably doesn’t even know what a flip flop is) but the girls of DU are excited to be getting in our first ever order of TKEES leather flip flops.
The line is really well made and we are getting in 7 different color choices including selections which will meet your seasonal needs such as metallics and neons in addition to basic licorice. It’s going to be difficult to choose, but I am pretty sure I will at least be getting one gold or bronze and one hot pink or neon yellow. I mean, if you have followed my pinterest account then you are acutely aware of my current obsession with both GOLD and NEON!
They are arriving NEXT WEEK. I don’t mean to wet your whistle for them and not be able to offer instant gratification, but with the nice weather afoot, I wanted to be sure to let you know they were en route!
This is the High Line during it’s years of use. (To mostly passengers between 1934 – 1960′s). And Below are some images of what the High Line turned into after it’s last use (carrying a few frozen chickens in 1980). Not to say it was not beautiful in it’s own romantic sort of way, but certainly not safe or functional. (these images by Joel Sternfeld by way of The High Line.org website.)
In 1999 two guys who lived in the neighborhood of the High Line, started Friends of the High Line and their efforts to save the tracks and have them re-purposed as a pedestrian park were underway. It didn’t happen over night but in 2006 the project was underway, led by world class firm JAMES CORNER FIELD OPERATIONS.
Check out this video that much better explains this amazing project below:
ATTN: CLEVELANDERS: Take note as FIELD OPERATIONS is the same firm that was commissioned to re-imagine our own PUBLIC SQUARE! We too can have a world class park! Check out the PROJECTS section of their website then click on Cleveland’s Public Square. Now look at the images below of the High Line today and take note of the billions of dollars worth of development that has been spurred on around this park as a direct result of this project. We too could see the same kind of positive impacts, from a functional, beautiful, world class make over of our city’s center.
Below are images taken from the High Line.org’s website:
Below is a pic of the DU buying assistant, Jen Allanson and the RS buying assistant, Jennie Doran while on a recent trip to NYC and (of course) the High Line.
Anyhow, I just love the High Line and want so badly to be able to walk to Public Square on my lunch break and have the same sort of experience. And I can’t help but think of all the amazing potential projects, businesses, buildings etc that would pop up around it.
