It’s THAT TIME OF YEAR again!!!! As you can see, we here at Dredgers Union/216 HQ are pretty darn excited about it too!
Things are a little different this time around and I for one, cannot wait. Typically, I create a temporary little retail store out of misc and random furniture and fixtures. This time, I have challenged a new design/architecture/landscape firm in town, MAKER, to take my typical budget and create a much more contemporary and clean look to house all the eclectic, colorful and whimsical items that we often get for the event.
We are going to be a little 216/retail factory over the next 2 weeks here, troubleshooting ways to house all the BAGILLIONS of amazing CLEVELAND-designed items we will have for sale June 15-17th.
Anyhow, we’ll keep you posted as we get closer, but be sure to save the date. The party, Friday June 15th will include all our favorite types of shenanigans, including DJ Peter PleasureCruise, and an after party on Greenhouse Tavern’s Rooftop featuring DJ Reena Samaan!
Don’t you just LOVE SUMMER!!!! ALSO, as long as you’ve got your calendars out…don’t forget to get your tickets NOW for Cleveland Museum of Arts Annual SUMMER SOLSTICE PARTY on June 30th. Not to be missed this year! In fact, when you attend 216 you can pick up a great party dress for the occasion!
See you soon!
With spring fever hitting Cleveland, pedicurists all over the area are sure to be enjoying fully booked schedules getting all those local toesies ready to be unveiled after the not-so-long or not-so-rough winter!
DU is here to help you take that process one step further! We are so excited (ok, maybe Sean isn’t excited, he probably doesn’t even know what a flip flop is) but the girls of DU are excited to be getting in our first ever order of TKEES leather flip flops.
The line is really well made and we are getting in 7 different color choices including selections which will meet your seasonal needs such as metallics and neons in addition to basic licorice. It’s going to be difficult to choose, but I am pretty sure I will at least be getting one gold or bronze and one hot pink or neon yellow. I mean, if you have followed my pinterest account then you are acutely aware of my current obsession with both GOLD and NEON!
They are arriving NEXT WEEK. I don’t mean to wet your whistle for them and not be able to offer instant gratification, but with the nice weather afoot, I wanted to be sure to let you know they were en route!
We’re excited to get our first assortment of Billykirk goods into the DU! Hand made in USA, these quality goods are built to last a lifetime. Here’s an exerpt from a recent article about Billykirk from GQ:
If you ask Chris and Kirk Bray where they’re from, the brothers behind the leather goods and canvas bag label Billykirk will give you a variety of answers. In fact, the fellas were born in Tennessee (and still have family in the Volunteer state), but grew up in Minnesota—meaning that the brothers Bray bring a unique mix of Southern and Midwestern perspectives to their collections (ticking-stripe bags, hand-sewn leather wallets), not to mention their laid-back personalities. After college the older (and more gregarious) brother, Chris, moved to L.A. to be an actor (mostly daytime TV stuff, according to him; the videos have yet to surface on YouTube), with the artsy and more cerebral brother Kirk soon following along.
“It all started with an inch-and-a-quarter-wide watch strap that Kirk and I found in a pawn shop in Santa Monica,” says Chris from his studio in Jersey City. “Kirk would wear it to this coffee-shop job he worked at night, and tons of people would ask him where he got it. Eventually, Kirk came into my office at this real-estate gig I had and we decided we should start making leather watch straps and leather goods.” That was in 1998, and in 1999 Billykirk launched, to great fanfare in the fashion community. Ten years later and the brand is de rigeur for cool shops all over the U.S. and overseas.
