MADE in the 216 is 2 weeks away!!!

It’s THAT TIME OF YEAR again!!!!  As you can see, we here at Dredgers Union/216 HQ are pretty darn excited about it too!

Things are a little different this time around and I for one, cannot wait.  Typically, I create a temporary little retail store out of misc and random furniture and fixtures.  This time, I have challenged a new design/architecture/landscape firm in town, MAKER, to take my typical budget and create a much more contemporary and clean look to house all the eclectic, colorful and whimsical items that we often get for the event.

We are going to be a little 216/retail factory over the next 2 weeks here, troubleshooting ways to house all the BAGILLIONS of amazing CLEVELAND-designed items we will have for sale June 15-17th.

Anyhow, we’ll keep you posted as we get closer, but be sure to save the date.  The party, Friday June 15th will include all our favorite types of shenanigans, including DJ Peter PleasureCruise, and an after party on Greenhouse Tavern’s Rooftop featuring DJ Reena Samaan!

Don’t you just LOVE SUMMER!!!!  ALSO, as long as you’ve got your calendars out…don’t forget to get your tickets NOW for Cleveland Museum of Arts Annual SUMMER SOLSTICE PARTY on June 30th.  Not to be missed this year!  In fact, when you attend 216 you can pick up a great party dress for the occasion!

MADE IN THE 216 taking submissions now!

It seems we just had a MADE IN THE 216 event, but it is that time again.  At least, for the planning stages of it.

This summer the event will be back in the event space of DREDGERS UNION with a new look and new vendors too!  Your favorite vendors will, of course, be back, but in addition we are currently accepting submissions between now and APRIL 15th – (TAX DAY!  !!) of new item from Cleveland area based designers/makers/creators/.

The event draws thousands and has created an audience to first time designers and created brand recognition for others.

submissions are NOT accepted in person or without an appointment, all submissions must first go through email to:

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES: (very simple)

We will reply to every submission within a week or so.

Please email us with:

• 2-4 images of your goods
• brief description of your product
• brief description of your brand.
• current pricing information if you have it.
• your name
• your email & phone number
• whether or not you have ever attended a ‘216’ event in the past
• list of other events (if any) you have participated in
• list of stores (if any) which currently carry your line

BEHIND THE DESIGN: 216 event artwork

Every time I produce a MADE IN THE 216 event, I am asked WHO did this design?!?!  Well in the past, every year i had a different local designer do the artwork and i LOVED how different the artwork felt from show to show.

Somehow though, when I met the boys (Lee, Mark & Joel) at  Kiddo Design (TWITTER: @heykiddodesign) it just stuck!  I have broken my own rules and have hired them the last 2 events in a row.  Maybe it is just because working with Lee (TWITTER:@lazelenak) Mark (TWITTER: @marknizinski) & Joel is just so much fun!  Or they have wooed me with their use of animals knitting…either way, their ideas really capture the essence and the whimsy of what I try to create in 3 dimensions at the actual event.

The campaign these guys did for this year’s MADE IN THE 216 & Grand Opening of Dredgers Union party made it to an awesome design blog called design work life.  Check it out!

MADE IN THE 216 / DREDGERS GRAND OPENING this FRIDAY JULY 8TH!

If you are in Cleveland and you are not here… then there might be a problem…

the *OFFICIAL* Grand Opening July 8th!

But alas, it is true!  We have FINALLY opened our doors!  This dream store was first conceived in May of last year.  Separately and together, Sean and I have been working like maniacs to make this day come true.  Join us in celebrating at our *OFFICIAL* Grand Opening party & this year’s MADE IN THE 216 event on JULY 8th, here at the Dredgers Union store.  (see super cute flyer below).

The event & party will be on FRIDAY JULY 8th….but the MADE IN THE 216 items will be available for shopping the entire weekend.
