Danielle and some other members of Team DU showed off some new Spring 12 product on Channel 3’s Good Company yesterday.
Check it out!

DU in Details Magazine

26 Mar

We’re super stoked on being included in a great story about the “Rust Belt” in the April issue of Details Magazine.  In addition to reading about what DU and other creatives/entrepreneurs are up to in the Midwest, you can also find out if “anal sex is the new deal breaker”.  Inquiring minds want to know!

field trip: we visit our factory in Chicago

26 Mar

This past weekend, we took a little trip out to Chicago to visit our factory.  It is where our DU private label is produced.  Sean has been working with this factory for years and years, with Wrath Arcane, and has spent much time there, but I have never yet had the chance to see where ‘the magic happens!”.

It was pretty cool to see where and how it all comes together.  This is Sean’s profession, but I don’t know much about it, so I am glad I finally got to do this.

Project MOCA event winning garment at DU

23 Mar

Sean and Dana from DU recently judged Project MOCA and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Cleveland. The winning look was designed by Deanna Turcotte, and is being featured in the front window of the Dredgers Union for the next two weeks.  Below are some images of Deanna’s look as well as images from the event.

PS…  Those are actual beetle wings on the shoulders, and hand dyed ties make up the skirt.

red jeggings study

18 Mar
4 items found at Dredgers Union right now:
the floral Keds (again, I own and love)
the red and white stripe Parisian chic  top (just got in, likely will own!)
I took 2 of the items, the RED JEGGING & TUNIC, and paired them with items found both at DU and at other stores, to play around with options and directions one could take these two basic items…really, I was so inspired I believe I will do several ‘studies’ of these items.  It was a lot of fun playing on polyvore, and I guess it’s just yet another social media tool that I will lose years of my life to…
check back for more studies on the red pants!

Cosmetics for your….FEET?!

15 Mar

With spring fever hitting Cleveland, pedicurists all over the area are sure to be enjoying fully booked schedules getting all those local toesies ready to be unveiled after the not-so-long or not-so-rough winter!

DU is here to help you take that process one step further!  We are so excited (ok, maybe Sean isn’t excited, he probably doesn’t even know what a flip flop is) but the girls of DU are excited to be getting in our first ever order of TKEES leather flip flops.

The line is really well made and we are getting in 7 different color choices including selections which will meet your seasonal needs such as metallics and neons in addition to basic licorice.  It’s going to be difficult to choose, but I am pretty sure I will at least be getting one gold or bronze and one hot pink or neon yellow.  I mean, if you have followed my pinterest account then you are acutely aware of my current obsession with both GOLD and NEON!

They are arriving NEXT WEEK.  I don’t mean to wet your whistle for them and not be able to offer instant gratification, but with the nice weather afoot, I wanted to be sure to let you know they were en route!

LOOK UP!

14 Mar

Image

It’s easy to get distracted by all the new signage on East Fourth, but next time you find yourself down here, I recommend looking up! There are so many architectural details that make this small block unique.

Image

The building that now hosts The Dredgers Union was originally a Five & Dime called McCrory’s. This is the original signage that can be seen above the second story windows.

Image

The Frederick Building above Erie Island Coffee has the neatest contrast of blue window frames with large white subway tile siding.

This building is technically on Prospect, but I have always admired the sleek black tile in contrast with the exposed brick texture.

One of my favorite details on the street are the remnants of painted advertisements on the sides of buildings.

Next time you find yourself in Dredgers Union, be sure the check out our book “East Fourth Street: The Rise, Decline, and Rebirth of an Urban Cleveland Street”, written by Alan F. Dutka ($19.95). It’ll provide you with an in-depth look at some of the beautiful buildings I’ve posted here, as well as many other interesting facts about the awesomeness that is East 4th!
